In her years as a professional story teller and documentarian, Karrie McDermott spent countless hours listening to the life stories of people from all walks of life. She noticed a recurring theme: while public figures had their biographies written, the extraordinary stories of everyday women often went untold. These were narratives of quiet strength, resilience, and profound wisdom that were in danger of being lost to time.

This realization led Karrie to found In their Own Words. Her vision was to create a space where women could preserve their legacies in a deeply personal and meaningful way.
